As of Season 5, the system uses placement matches - your predicted rank is based on your previous season's final rank minus a few divisions, then adjusted by your placement match performance.If a season ends while you are on vacation, you come back to a lower starting point regardless of decay. High-rank players (Celestial II and above) get reset to Grandmaster II. Everyone else drops roughly 3 divisions from their final rank.
Skill Rust
The most underestimated factor. Two weeks without playing means your reaction times are slower, your game sense is duller, and your muscle memory for ability combos has faded.
