In January, it’s normal to start thinking about all the months of the year you have ahead of you. It’s exciting to think about the things you can work on and what exciting plans and memories you can fill the year with. It’s also a great time to
plan out any projects that you’d like to take on. When it comes to your home, this often means looking at any of the upgrades that have been on your agenda. That way, you can work out when you might want to work on certain things, get your research underway, and ensure that you have the budget in place. But what happens when you don’t really know where to start?
When it comes to renovating your home, making small improvements, or even fixing any issues, it’s not always easy to know exactly how to approach it. Things can often become complicated, be time-consuming, or even cost a lot of money. So to help you get organized with what you’d like to do this year, we’re going to run through seven key options for you to consider.
1. Redecorate
One of the best places to start is always with any redecorating projects that you intend to carry out.
Redecorating your home can sometimes feel like a big job – but it can be super fun when you break it down into smaller steps to accomplish. You’ll also want to work out what designs, colors, and fabrics you want to work with throughout the home. It might be the case that you want to create a cohesive design scheme that runs throughout the entire property, or you might want to give each space its own individual look and feel.
2. Plan Construction
Next up, it could be that doing construction is the way you’d really like to upgrade your home this year. Maybe you’ve been thinking about extending the property or changing rooms around? When that’s the case, it could be time to speak to an architect or a contractor and look at bringing your ideas to life. You could even consider converting different unused spaces or rejigging the whole layout to create a space you truly love.
3. Fix Any Issues
Another thing that you might want to do to upgrade your home is looking at fixing any problems that have cropped up. If you have had lingering issues that you’ve been meaning to look into, now is the time to do it! It’s the perfect time to call in an expert
plumber in your local area and repair any leaks or sort your boiler out. You can also get a handyman in to take on things that have gone into disrepair over the years, such as broken woodwork.
4. Carry Out Landscaping
Or maybe for you, what you really want to do is work outside in the garden! If you haven’t yet landscaped your yard, now could be the time. It might even be the last thing that you have left on your list of renovations to do. Designing a beautiful yard can be great to do ahead of the summer months so you get to go out and enjoy it.
5. Build a Den
While we’re on the topic of the exterior, if you have been thinking about installing an outbuilding or den on the property, you could consider that too. If you work from home, having a space outside to work from that is separate from the home could work. Or it could be a room that you use as a den, a space for your older children to hang out, or even a guest suite for visitors!
6. Redo Your Fixings and Fixtures
Another options that you have here is to take a look at upgrading some of the firm fixtures that you have in the home. Two of the most popular ways of doing this are with your kitchen and bathroom. By bringing in a
modern kitchen design or completely redoing your bathrooms to freshen them up, your home is going to get a serious upgrade! And if you plan on selling any time soon, this is going to help you to attract key buyers too.
7. Refurnish
Lastly, you might also want to think about your furnishing options here. It’s not always the case that you want to fully redecorate or even renovate the entire place! It can be costly to change the paint and flooring around the entire home, or do any kind of construction. Instead, you can look to change up some of the furniture to create a look and feel that you love. Plus, switching up your furniture can often feel like you’ve done a full remodel – but it comes at a fraction of the price!
