How To Create The Perfect Kitchen For Entertaining

When it comes to hosting friends and family, your kitchen is the heart of the party - after all, it’s where people gather, chat, eat, and drink, so why not make it a space that’s perfectly suited for entertaining? It shouldn’t make any difference whether you’re an experienced chef or a ‘throw it in the oven and hope for the best’ kind of cook, you can still create the perfect kitchen for entertaining - read on to find out more about how to do it.

Open Up Your Space

The first thing you need to think about if you want to create the perfect kitchen for entertaining is the layout - it’s really the most important feature of an entertainment-friendly kitchen, and the more open space you’ve got, the better. If your kitchen feels cramped, people aren’t going to want to hang out there, which is why, if possible, you need to consider an open-plan kitchen where people can move about freely - and where they can get to other areas of the house, like the dining area or living room more easily too. An island or a breakfast bar can also be really useful, giving you extra seating and making it easy for people to sit and chat while you prep dinner.

If a full remodel isn’t on the cards, don’t worry - just rethinking your current layout might make things better, and moving some furniture around could give you the result you’re looking for. Try positioning things in a way that creates a good flow, like keeping the cooking area open and accessible while there’s some casual seating nearby for everyone to make use of, for example.

Create Functional Zones

When you’re entertaining, you’ve got to have a kitchen that works with you rather than against you, and one way to ensure that happens is to create dedicated zones for each different activity that has to happen in the space. So you should be able to separate the pre space, cooking area, and serving zone (ideally) and everything will feel a lot more organized and just be a better place to spend time.

A prep station with plenty of counter space is really going to make things easier for you, and you’ll also need to make sure you’ve got each access to your fridge and anywhere else you need to get to. And if you’ve got room, setting up a drinks station can be fantastic for parties - get some plastic cups, drinks, and accessories and people can serve themselves saving you a job (when you’ve already got so much to do).

The point is that having designated areas like these and others make it easy for guests to grab what they want without getting in the way of whatever it is you’re doing, and everyone can feel much more comfortable.

Use Floor Tiles

Your choice of flooring can make a big difference when it comes to making your kitchen a good space for entertaining - you’ll want something that looks good but that’s durable as well, and kitchen tiles can be the perfect solution. Not only are they extremely durable, but they also come in an endless range of designs, styles, and colors to fit whatever you’re looking for. It’s always a good idea to find a good tile company so you know you’re getting the best quality, as you’re going to want this floor to last.

When you’re choosing your tiles, think about what you need to get from them - it’s not just about looks (although that’s clearly important); you’re going to need to be able to easily clean them too; spills and stains happen at parties all the time, no matter how careful people might be, so you’ll need something that you can just quickly wipe down, not just to keep your home clean but to prevent slips too.

Maximize Storage

One of the biggest headaches you’ll have to deal with when you’re entertaining is the clutter in your home - having too much stuff lying around can make your kitchen feel smaller than it really is, not to mention messy and even chaotic. That’s not a good feeling to have when you want people to just enjoy themselves. So, if you’ve got lots of stuff the best way to deal with it is to find the most storage possible, in whatever way you can.

There are all kinds of different ways to maximize your kitchen storage, from pull-out shelves to lazy Susans to dividers to help you make more use out of your cabinets - plus you can just have a general declutter before your guests arrive, which is a great idea anyway. And if you just want to make room for your party guests, you can easily store a few things in a bedroom or garage, for example, and bring them back to the kitchen when everyone’s gone home.
