Make Moving A Little Bit Less Stressful

There's a reason why moving is ranked as one of life's most stressful events, if you've ever done a big move yourself you'll know it's no joke. There's so much more that goes into it than just moving from A to B, for a while your worldly possessions are all in a random moving van on the road and there's usually a million bits of paperwork to do and lists to check off before you can even get to that point. The problem is that many of us are guilty of treating it like it's one giant task, instead of the series of smaller steps that it actually is. Breaking it down by rooms or sections of the home makes it much more manageable. If you're moving soon, this advice may help.

Organising Boxes

One of the biggest headaches when it comes to unpacking a big move can be not knowing what's in each box. Writing the room and a few notes about the contents on each box makes the situation far less stressful. Some people like numbering boxes and keeping a simple list so you know exactly what's where. Colour coded stickers are handy if you want a quick visual clue. Fragile items don’t need expensive materials; old t-shirts, towels, or bubble wrap can keep them safe without adding to the cost or stress.

Essentials Kit

Having a small box or bag with the things you'll need right away makes moving day easier. Chargers, important documents, a change of clothes, toiletries, snacks, and anything the kids or pets need should go in there. When you know all the essentials are in one place, it stops you tearing through dozens of boxes trying to find one thing.

Avoiding Last Minute Disasters

Even with the best plans, things can go wrong. Movers might cancel, a van could break down, or traffic might throw everything off. Keep the number of same day movers or van rental handy just in case. Having extra tape, boxes, and basic tools nearby means minor issues don’t turn into full blown emergencies. These little preparations can save a lot of stress and keep your day moving along.

Getting Help and Pacing Yourself

It makes sense to accept a bit of help. If you have friends or family nearby then having them carry boxes, keep an eye on kids, or help set up in your new space is absolutely invaluable. Even a couple of hours makes a noticeable difference. For heavy or awkward items, hiring professional movers is worth considering, they can save so much time (and potentially injuries) compared to doing it yourselves.

Keeping Perspective

Moving really is hectic for everyone, even the most calm people amongst us. But it’s temporary, and it’s so worth it, there’s nothing quite like starting fresh in a new home and moving into that new chapter of your life. The more planning and prep you can do for a move the better, and the more help you can rope in the easier it’s likely to be.
