5 Self-Care Tips You Didn't Know You Needed

Thanks to the rise of social media influencers, we’re inundated with skincare advice, product recommendations, and steps to achieve the ideal routine. With so many tips on achieving healthy, glowing skin, there’s a lot of self-care that’s being ignored.

This article will offer some self-care advice that you probably won’t see as much on social media, but you might just need a little more than yet another serum.

Feminine Hygiene and Self-Care

First of all, who ever talks about the intricacies of caring for our intimate areas? They’re a sensitive spot – both physically and in terms of having an open conversation!

However, choosing the right feminine care products can be daunting. While the female intimate area is mostly self-cleaning, using some gentle and safe products can help us feel fresher and healthier down there. Before buying anything, it’s important to do some research into safe ingredients and products to make sure you don’t mess up your pH balance or cause infections.

Scalp Care for Healthier Hair

How many of us are practicing self-care for our scalps? We’re not sure, but it’s definitely far too few! The overall health of your hair is heavily dependent on your scalp, so you should be taking care of it.

You can care for your scalp health by using oil-based hair masks once every one to two weeks and even exfoliating your scalp. Additionally, remember that washing your hair too often can strip it of its natural oils and cause dryness.

Oral Hygiene Beyond Brushing

Dental hygiene is another largely overlooked area of self-care. We’re all (hopefully) brushing our teeth twice a day, but there’s a lot more to it than that.

First of all, regularly visiting the dentist is essential for maintaining your health and getting your teeth professionally cleaned, which we all need from time to time. However, there are more steps you can take to care for your mouth. Flossing and using mouth wash are things you’ve probably heard of, but take some time to look into other practices like oil pulling and tongue scraping.

Nail and Hand Care

Even if you’re going for regular manicures, caring for your nails at home is something you should be thinking about.

Using a cuticle oil every day is important for keeping those sensitive areas hydrated and restoring nutrients and vitamins to your skin and nail beds. Additionally, remember that our hands are always hard at work. Exfoliating and moisturizing them on a regular basis is just as important as the skincare on your face!

Simplified Skincare

Finally, just because it’s important to mention – having an overly complicated skincare routine can often do more harm than good.

Instead of trying to copy your favourite influencer’s skincare routine step by step, take things down a notch and focus on the basics. A good cleanser, toner, moisturizer, SPF, and exfoliant are really all you need, and simplifying things might actually help improve your skin’s appearance. Additionally, don’t forget the impact of your diet on your skin health.
